12 Things

1) Establish an individual set of values but recognize those of the surrounding community and of the various cultures of the world. (The world is a big place. Try to get acquainted with as much of it as you possibly can. Keep an open mind in doing so. And just because it's your way doesn't mean it's the correct way. Live and let live.)

2) Explore their own ancestry, culture, and place. (And never forget where you came from.)

3)****Are comfortable being alone, yet understand dynamics between people and form healthy relationships.**** (You want someone who loves you more than you [should] love yourself--never settle for less.)

4) Accept mortality, knowing that every choice affects the generations to come. (Every action has a consequence.)

5)****Think for themselves; observe, analyze, and discover truth without relying on the opinions of others.**** (I tend to frown upon and even judge those otherwise known as the common "follower".)

6)****Favor love, curiosity, reverence, and empathy over material wealth.**** (It's like my padre always says, "When you die it all stays here, so focus on what's really important".)

7) Choose a vocation that contributes to the common good. (If you're not passionate about what you do… then it's not worth doing.)

8) Enjoy a variety of new places and experiences but identify and cherish a place to call home. (Don't be afraid to travel… experience different things… broaden your horizons.)

9) Create new things and find new experiences. (Two very important things everyone should have -- a creative outlet and a passport, just saying'.)

10)****Express their own voice with confidence.**** (Stand up for what you believe in even if it means standing alone. Don't be afraid of receiving negative feedback. Each person has a voice--use it.)

11) Add value to every encounter and to every group of which they are a part. (Make a difference…)

12) Always ask: "Who am I?", "Where are my limits?", "What are the possibilities?" ("Sky's the limit" and as cliche as it sounds, it's dead-on.)
